The “Examen civique” proposed by CAVILAM – Alliance Française has been mandatory since January 1, 2026, for any first application for a multi-year residence permit, a 10-year residence card, or French naturalization.

4 sessions per month: Monday late afternoons and Thursday mornings
The examen civique is a multiple-choice questionnaire taken on a computer. It consists of 40 questions covering: The principles and values of the Republic, the rights and obligations applicable in France, the functioning of French institutions, key historical, cultural, and geographical references, everyday life situations in French society. To pass the exam, you must obtain at least 32 correct answers out of 40
